Boondocking Mound City, MO

We’re holed up tonight right off the Mound City, Mo exit in a large graveled field after traveling 425 miles today. We started early this morning from a huge truck stop about 65 miles east of St. Louis near Mt. Vernon, IL as the WalMart there wouldn’t take us. Actually, for a truck stop, since we got in earlier than the truckers, we got the primo spot and Tucker enjoyed a long, grassy walk.

I am growing weary of our travel since it is nothing but a slog along the freeways. Many of the same freeways we traversed coming east just a couple months ago. The landscape is drier now but we really haven’t seen much in the way of fall colors. We are still about 615 miles from our destination.

On another note, we had our lunch stop today in the parking lot of the pride and joy of Macon, Mo—the Toastmaster factory. It was sad to see a much touted company, hailed on the town’s water tower, now defunct and the property for sale. A sign of the times I guess.
